Preliminary Reconnaissance Survey

Beginning in December and continuing in January, survey teams from Historic Resources Group and Architectural Resources Group will be conducting a preliminary reconnaissance survey of neighborhoods in Alhambra as part of the City of Alhambra’s Phase II citywide historic resources survey. This reconnaissance effort will help familiarize consultants with the existing condition of the built environment throughout the City and help identify the physical, architectural, and visual qualities that characterize each neighborhood in Alhambra. This information will aid in organizing more detailed survey efforts of potential historic resources scheduled to take place in Spring 2023.

As part of the preliminary reconnaissance survey, consultants will be driving each street in Alhambra to observe and document the existing condition of each neighborhood. These field inspections are conducted from vehicles or from the public right-of-way and will not require access to private property. You may see surveyors photographing buildings in your neighborhood and/or using maps, tablets, or laptop computers to document their observations. However, data collected as part of this effort is limited to information related to the built environment and does not include any personal information regarding the current owners or occupants of any building.

As the reconnaissance survey is but one part of a larger ongoing survey process, this initial field investigation is undertaken largely for documentation purposes, and to help inform later decision-making regarding potential historic resources. No recommendations or determinations regarding the eligibility of any property as a potential historic resource will be made during this phase of the project, and properties will not be formally designated. Historic designation is a separate process subject to public notification, participation, and review.
